Have you ever just been cruising along in life at a comfortable speed and the bottom falls out in the middle of your journey? Every turn to correct your course is wrong and you soon discover you’ve lost control? So often I will work to take back control of my situation only to discover God is in the midst of the chaos and has a purpose for the course change. I’ve come to realize God will be using me and my situation or someone in my life and their situation in the future.
There will be someone that God wants them to hear about that very situation; to see the proof God provides that HE was there the whole time and only with Him we made it through to the other side. I believe there will be people in all of our lives who will need to hear our stories and look into our eyes and see the joy the Lord brings as He walks with us in times of trouble. Yes, these are also faith building moments, weeks, months and sometimes years, but He also is bringing the person who can only be reached by hearing our story.
Paul explains it this way in 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 (NLT), “We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.”
If we’ve not been through financial hardship, how can we truly say to another person “God is Faithful!” If we have not dealt with physical or spiritual illness, how can we proclaim with passion that “God is a Healer!” Many people could be waiting to hear your stories of triumph over addiction, financial ruin, or health scares. You are being put in a position to bless others the way God has uniquely designed you to do.
1 Peter 5:8-11 (NLT) tells us to, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In His kindness God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation. All power to Him forever! Amen!”
So, shed those tears! Cry out to God yourself and with other believers! In God’s perfect time you will step through to the other side of the desperation and pain not only to embrace those who prayed with you, but also to face those who will recognize the ‘Street Cred’ you now have to speak into lives; lives that may otherwise been devoured by the roaring lion.
