I look at the large footprints ahead of me, thinking to myself, I know who they belong to. “Big shoes to fill, too big for you.” The enemy’s voice is telling me my own shoes will never fill the impressions before me.
Then a quiet, comforting voice breathes in my ears saying “No those are not your shoe prints, but I have called you to this path and as you follow the way I have unfolded before you, your shoes will soon fill the indentations. I am walking with you and I will fill in the extra space as you grow into the prints.”
Stepping forward in faith, the warmness of the second voice moves to my heart and pours confidence into my soul. As each step lands with a more resounding noise I keep my eyes forward, no longer looking to the side, comparing my walk to those around me.
Walking along this path I notice my shoes are slowly filling the outlines and I begin to understand the identity of the person who left these etchings. Only one direction leads to the destination I have chosen. He walked before me so I would have a footpath to follow. He made a way for me to fulfill the purpose for which I was created.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory.
–Romans 8:26-30 NLT
My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths. When you walk, you won’t stumble. Take hold of my instructions, don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.
– Proverbs 4:10-13
Father, thank You that You are always with me, guiding me with Your wise counsel. Thank You for forgiving me when I choose to ignore Your wisdom and trust in my own. Thank You, Lord, for never turning Your back on me no matter how many times I step off the path to take control over my situations. Thank You for Your Word that promises to never turn a deaf ear to my cries for help and mercy when I have so badly messed up an issue I had given to You to handle. Father, please see into my heart and know how much I love You not only for Your unconditional kindness but also for never leaving me alone in my failures. You are a most mighty and loving God and I am more grateful than words can express for Your grace. Please help me to treat others You have put along my course in the way you have treated and rescued me as we all walk our paths to spending eternity with you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
